The Fifth "Stochastik-Tage" (German Open Conference on Probability and Statistics)

Continuing the series of Stochastik-Tage, hold in Marburg 1993, Freiberg 1996, München 1998, and Hamburg 2000, the Fachgruppe Stochastik organizes the Fifth Stochastik-Tage at the University of Magdeburg

from Tuesday, March 19 to Friday, March 22, 2002

In the tradition of the previous conferences, the Magdeburger Stochastik-Tage provide an international forum for presentation and discussion of new results in the area of probability and statistics. The conference is open for all participants from universities, business, administration and industry.

The Conference Program

The opening session of the conference will begin at 10.00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19th, 2002. The scientific program will end by 13.00 p.m. on Friday, March 22th, 2002.
The Stochastik-Tage are organized in sections, all of which comprise an invited survey lecture (40 min) and contributed lectures (25 min, including discussion) in parallel sessions.

Additionally, there will be three invited plenary lectures (including opening and closing lecture), a panel discussion on the topic Stochastik für die Schule, and a conference dinner. Upon request, poster sessions will be enabled; software presentations are also possible.

During the conference, an assembly of the Fachgruppe Stochastik will take place.

Panel Discussion

A panel discussion on the topic Stochastik für die Schule will be held on the Thursday evening under the chairmanship of Norbert Henze (Karlsruhe). The following persons have agreed to be discussants: Joachim Engel (Ludwigsburg), Heinz Klaus Strick (Leverkusen), Sabine Zöllner (Stendal).

Award

The prize of the Fachgruppe Stochastik which is announced for outstanding doctoral dissertations will be awarded during the conference.

Conference Languages

Conference languages are German and English.


Conference Fees

The ordinary registration fee is 40 EUR. Special fees apply to members of the Fachgruppe Stochastik and of the DMV (30 EUR), and to students and scholars (10 EUR). You have to pay an additional fee of 10 EUR if you pay the registration fee after January 31, 2002.

Please register until January 31, 2002. Deadline for abstracts is January 31, 2002.

Deadlines for Payments and Refunds

The fees for conference and conference dinner must be paid until January 31, 2002. For late registrations and payments an additional fee of 10 EUR will be charged. We only accept written cancellations. Refunds of all payments are guaranteed for cancellations before February 15, 2002. For cancellations between February 15 und March 15, 2002 only 75% of payments will be refunded. After this date, no refunds are possible.

Short lectures / Posters / Abstracts

If you like to present a short lecture or poster, please use the above registration form. Presentations of short lectures or posters can only be accepted if arriving before January 31, 2002.

Participants who want to present a short lecture or poster are requested to send an appropriate abstract (1 page at most) in English, via e-mail. Please use only the recommended LaTeX-template which can be downloaded here.

In order to be included in the abstract volume, the abstract must be sent until January 31, 2002. The abstract volume is handed out to all participants upon registration in the conference office.


Conference Dinner

A conference dinner will be organized on Wednesday March 20, 2002 at the MDR-Landesfunkhaus Sachsen-Anhalt on the Elbinsel Rotehorn, starting at 8 p.m.

The price of the conference dinner is for conference participants and accompanying persons 30 EUR each. Please indicate your personal choices on our registration form.
