Die Veranstaltung ist für Mathematikstudenten anrechenbar mit 9 CP in den Lehrgebieten Analysis, Numerik und Optimierung.
Die Veranstaltung besteht aus zwei Teilen. Ein Teil der Veranstaltung behandelt Fragestellungen der Optimierung mit gewöhnlichen Differentialgleichungen.

Der von mir verantwortete Teil der Veranstaltung behandelt partielle Differentialgleichungen (PDE).
Hierbei werden wir zunächst mit Hilfe von Reynolds' Transport Theorem allgemeine Bilanzgleichung herleiten.
Aus diesen Bilanzgleichungen erhalten wir durch geeignete Annahmen verschiedene Typen von PDE, welche dann diskutiert werden.
Die folgenden Prototypen werden in der Vorlesung diskutiert
(i) Hyperbolische PDE erster Ordnung: lineare Advektion und Burgers-Gleichung
(ii)Zeitunabhängige Gleichungen zweiter Ordnung: Laplace-/Poisson-Gleichung (elliptische PDE)
(iii)Zeitabhängige Gleichungen zweiter Ordnung: Wärmeleitungsgleichung ({parabolische PDE)
(iv)Hyperbolische PDE zweiter Ordnung: Wellengleichung
Abschliessend werden auch wichtige Konzepte und Verfahren für das numerische Lösen dieser PDE vorgestellt.
Voraussetzungen für diesen Teil sind Kenntnisse der Numerik (z.B. Numerik I) und in der Analysis gewöhnlicher Differentialgleichungen.
