An efficient and novel numerical scheme for multi-dimensional population balance systems is presented in this paper. The proposed numerical scheme can be used to solve population balance systems in $\mathbb{R}^{d+s}$, where $d=1,~2,~3$ and $s>1$ are the dimensions of the physical and internal property spaces. The numerical scheme is based on operator-splitting finite element method, and it alleviates the ``curse of dimensionality
